This work stems from a profound experience of the disciplinary society within the living environment, particularly in the Anhui region of China, where there is a strong traditional disciplinary atmosphere. In such a social system, individual behavior is often constrained by invisible social norms, and people are compelled to cautiously adhere to rules in both public and private spheres to maintain social harmony and stability. This disciplinary system permeates all aspects of society, from family to school, from work to factory, where personal freedom is frequently suppressed to fit into the collective order and power structure.
The cement factory in industrial society, as a microcosm of modern society, embodies the historical continuity and materialized form of the disciplinary system. The equipment, tools, and repetitive labor of the workers within the factory seem like an invisible constraint on personal freedom. This series of works, by documenting the factory environment, equipment, and the daily labor of workers, explores the existence of disciplinary mechanisms in modern society and their impact
on individuals.
